queen of france

purpose and history

Queen Of France is a small but potent application developed to alleviate some of the common problems that exist when renaming a large number of files (for example, MP3s). The application is written with the power users in mind; it supports Perl-Compatible Regular Expressions for robust search-and-replace features, intelligent filename cleansing routines, a notepad-like interface to navigate the filenames in a list-like fashion, and more.

The application greatly simplifies the batch renaming of directories containing many files.

present and future

Over the past twelve months I have put together a list of features I would one day like to see in the application. I have battled bugs introduced into the application by Perl, introduced some new (minor) features to make life a little more feature-rich, and cleaned up the code enough to make it less scary to develop. :)

Currently I have used the application (in its present form) to rename successfully over 10,000 files without suffering data loss or incorrectly named files, extra files, burning hard drives, headaches, or missing inodes. I consider it fairly stable as long as you are savvy. Savvy?

I have collection information about bugs I have come across (nothing major..yet) and I have lists and lists of ideas for enhanced usability, modularity and maintainability that I will implement. To give you an idea of where I would like this app to go...

downloading the software

Please contact me for a copy of the beta release of the software. For the time being it's closed-source, available as a single standalone .EXE for Windows only. It's a lot easier to fix bugs when I don't need to worry about the version of the interpreter and DLLs you run and I can focus on the functional fixes versus environmental differences.
